Dear Jonas Brothers, I'm sorry I dissed you. Please come back.

The day that Carlie decided she'd rather listen to Sirius Hits One or The Pulse instead of Radio Disney was, like, one of my really happy days. Because? Radio Disney was making me mental. A lot.

But now? Here's a short list of things I really wish I hadn't heard come from the mouth of my 10-year-old child today:

"You spin me right round, baby, right round, when you go down, when you go downtown."

"When it comes to love, if it's not rough it isn't fun."

"Don't trust a 'ho"

And while I do love me some JT, where in love means OMFG hot, I could live without my kid singing softly under her breath while she paints her little toenails right this very minute:

"Got enough dead homies, I don't want no more."

Because? She certainly does not have any dead homies. And? Poser.

Another thing that she has taken upon herself this summer is to stop what she is doing at 5 p.m. and watch the news. The local news. On TV. Why? I have no idea. When I asked her why, she said "Because I like the news." OK. No one likes the news. Especially the local news. Also? The news generally makes her cry. Yet she still tries to sneak into the TV room to watch it. WTF? Weird kid.

I never in a million years thought it would be possible to miss the musical stylings of Miley Cyrus, where in musical stylings = Dear Mom, please forgive me for playing Shaun Cassidy's* "Da Doo Ron Ron" eleventy billion times a day in 1977. Amen**.
**For those of you too young to appreciate the beauty that was Shaun Cassidy, he was THE SHIT in 1977, when I was 11 years old. He was my 'tween edition of OMFG hot.

*My mom died in 1998, but I am pretty sure she reads this blog.

Oh yeah, Shaun and David were all over my walls as an 11yr old in 1977!! My other loves were the Beatles and the Bee Gees. My Saturday Night Fever lp was the most coveted xmas gift! Damn, I'm just all about the nostalgia this week.

When my older girl was three, she'd sing Elvis' song "In the Ghetto." Now THAT odd.

It scares me sometimes when my 5th graders tell me what music they're listening to. And I know if I was in 5th grade I'd be listening to it too. I was in 7th grade listening to 'Darling Nikki'.....YIKES!

HILARIOUS! And WHY did they have to change the words to You Spin Me Right Round...I was all excited when my boys liked it, and then I was WHOA...what the? Reminds me of one day when my mom came flying outside and grabbed me b/c I'd been singing Hot Blooded by Foreigner really LOUD. Apparently, "C'mon baby, do you do more than dance" is not appropriate for 7 year old girls. Hmpf.

I remember singing Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" at the top of my lungs when I was about 11. The lyrics' meaning went right over my head.

OMG, me too with "Physical!" That's the thing- I think a lot of the lyrics that kids are latching onto, they have no idea what they really mean. At least, I hope they don't. I had the soundtrack to "Grease" from about age 5 on up. Have you ever really listened to "Greased Lightnin'"? It's not just about guys building a cool car. I was probably about 25 when I finally caught the lyrics to it, and I was shocked. Shocked, I tell ya!

Carlie LOVES Grease and sings the songs from that, and somehow they don't bother me as much as the new ones.

OMG, does anyone remember the episode of "Arrested Development" where Michael and Maeby sing "Afternoon Delight" at the karaoke party? That shit is hilarious. The episode is on hulu if you haven't seen it.

Man, I loved that show.
