Thinking out loud

Goal: to get more business from local attorneys.

I'm thinking that the fact I am right around the corner should be my biggest selling point. Why? Because I don't want to commute anymore. But why is that good for them? Because the less I travel, the better it is for the environment. Ergo, hire me and save the world.

Husband thinks this is a crock of shit and no lawyer worth his salt cares about the environment. I beg to differ. We live in the Pacific Northwest for God's sake, where you can be shot by firing squad for not recycling.
So here's the postcard I have dabbled with so far. I am totally open to input and critique. Tim says sure, send it, you've got nothing to lose. But that's not true. The last thing I want to do is get some name recognition, and the name being recognized for being a doofus. So please, save me from being a doofus and edit my freaking marketing materials. If you click on the postcard you should get a bigger, readable, version.
Thank you. I heart you all, people of the great and mighty Internet.

I actually think it's pretty good as it is. Do you have a website? That could help, too. List all your clients, have your resume up there, rates, etc.

And I don't get how lawyers wouldn't care about the environment - people of all professions care about the environment.

I LOVE this!! Fabulous mark up but I would also go in and introduce yourself. I know two just down the street from you who would want to see you come in person and "dazzle" them. I know it sounds like a crock o shit but that's how they roll.

I helped my husband start his law practice by sending things like this out repeatedly. It will work over time. I would suggest indicating the number of years you have been certified - lawyers love experience. I do think that lawyers can be very green - they are also hounds for thick files.

Best of luck!!

Hey Shana-

1) You need to take the quotation marks off around green, or else it means the opposite.

(See http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/ for more info)

2) There is too much to read. 5 bullet points are plenty.

I would get rid of:

1a)My efforts at running a sustainable practice include: (and just get right to the point).

1b)Working locally to avoid commuting. (This needs to be about what you can do for them, not what they are doing for you.)

1c)Ecofriendly marketing materials (you state that at the bottom with the recycled sign).

1d)In house recycling (unless this helps them someway, such as you recycle their stuff for them).

I agree with chaca about a web-site, and brightside's about stating your years of experience. You also might want to add an, "Call me so I can tell you how!" sort of thing at the bottom.

(I hope this isn't too much info. Doing these sort of things drive one crazy!)

I"m baaaack !!!

I agree with the changes from missburrows; remeber to focus on the WIFIM - what's in it for me - from the attorney perspective.I'd also hand deliver these things and get in tight with the admins/secretaries. They probably have as much decision power in this as the attorneys.

I think it's a good idea to market yourself - why not? I think Miss Burrows makes some good points. You know how busy lawyers and their assistants are - they want brief and they also want to know what's in it for them.
