We have this crappy free-gift-with-purchase travel mug that Carlie loves to drink out of, for whatever strange reason. Last night when Carlie unloaded the dishwasher, she found the travel mug in two pieces, the "insulated" plastic inner part was completely unattached and separate from the fancy chrome exterior, rendering the travel mug completely useless and ready for the garbage can.
She took the pieces out of the dishwasher and said, "LOOK! THE MUG HAS A SECRET COMPARTMENT!"
Um. Okay.
Rather than rushing her to the nearest testing facility for an IQ test, I choose to see this as an example of her youthful optimism and joy for life.
And it's that attitude that I hope is on full display when she gets home from school this afternoon and discovers that she did not get accepted into the Art School, the one that she interviewed for while sick as a dog. The letter arrived, the letter that she has had a stomachache over for the last several days, waiting for it to arrive.
They accepted 90 fifth graders to attend for sixth grade for the 2010-11 school year. They had 383 applicants. "If openings become available, students will be invited from the top of the waiting list to fill those vacancies."I've got 90 minutes to decide if we are (a) happy (b) sad (c) disappointed or (d) indifferent, before I pick her up from school.

So sorry to hear that she didn't get in. Good luck telling her.
But she's #1 on the waiting list!
I would think there's a good chance she'll be taken off the waiting list. An downright excellent showing given she was sick.
How did she take it??
She is very optimistic and excited by the prospect of someone changing their mind, or moving away, or, worse case scenario, falling down a flight of stairs and breaking both ankles and having to go to a school with an elevator. OK. That last one was just me. (Kidding) (Mostly)
It isn't hard at all to start making money online in the underground world of blackhat seo tools, It's not a big surprise if you have no clue about blackhat marketing. Blackhat marketing uses not-so-popular or little-understood avenues to generate an income online.
I'm sorry! Is she okay? Go get her another travel mug.
That secret compartment conclusion is like the kid who said "there must be a pony!" when he saw a big pile of horseshit. Yay, Carlie, for your positive outlook.
The first on the waiting list is great. Her chances of getting in are really strong, I'll bet. It's like when Super Son placed second alternate in debate from Washington to go to nationals. His teammates said "all you have to do is have two people killed." I worry sometimes about their Tanya Harding-like tendencies.
I am not surprised at her lovely & clever optimism and imagine she will see the same hope in being #1 on the waiting list.
On a tangential note, the principal's name is "Hattrick"? That's kind of awesome.
