Woe is me (and mine)

A little background: my husband has SAD (seasonal affective disorder). But he refuses to acknowledge this. It's just a weird coincidence that he turns into a mopey freakazoid this time of year EVERY year. That's all.

So fall comes, the rain starts, the gray days stretch on and all of the sudden, we're broke. Every year. Just as the holidays approach. And I say, "We're no more broke than we were in July when you bought the new big screen TV." But, no, we're broke NOW. And Christmas presents? Who needs Christmas presents. Our kids already have enough stuff, and so do all of our friends and family that graciously present us with gifts every year. Screw them all.

We've been doing this dance for 11 years now. Grumpy and sad fall turns into furiously fighting winter, turns into perfectly lovely holidays and everything is fine and, wham, the sun comes out again and life is good. EVERY FREAKING YEAR.

But this year is a little bit different. This year the man has gone completely apeshit and CANCELLED our satellite TV today. We talked about it yesterday but the thing is, WE TALK ABOUT IT EVERY YEAR but no one ever does anything. And now? My TV? It's just sitting here staring at me, all, like, what are you looking at, asshole, I'm dead.

Don't even ask about the children. The poor, poor children.

So if you see my friends Tim Gunn and Hiro Nakimoro and Dr. Jack and Hurley and Jack Bauer and, OMG, so many wonderful friends that I have in TV land, please tell them all that I love them all and I'll be back soon.

Yikes. I'm sorry for your loss. We just broke out our "happy light" yesterday a.m. after evidence of SAD reared its head here. We have a November-Feb crying jag here EVERY year.

Oh you poor, poor thing. Don't you need tv to get through the sad day of fall & winter. Plus how will you know how to shop without all the tv ads?

He's been possessed by a demon, needs an exorcism. You must reinstate the satellite, so you can watch True Blood to see how it's done.

I got rid of cable/satellite a few years ago and I have to say that after the initial grieving I don't miss it at all. You can watch a lot of the shows on the Internet now as well.

You need to get that man a SAD light and now! I have one and it works wonders.

Oh boy - I would be PO. We do try to have a TV free night every couple of weeks but I can do that because I am secure in the knowldege that my shows are getting TiVo'd. Get the SAD light for hubby and ask for satellite back for Christmas.

Bless your heart! It's a good thing you'll be out of the house soon to go see that movie, hmm, what is that again, that's opening on the 21st. I thought you might see it a time or two. Just like me. :-)

get a digital antennae. We get all the local channels at least. We're on hold with cable until March.

I've heard that full-spectrum lightbulbs are supposed to help (just replace the regular ones)...
