Family Fun Day. Really, why do I bother?

We just waited over 20 minutes in line for lunch. At Ikea. And then? Left without shopping. Because? Carlie had a melt down. A. Melt. Down. The girl is almost 12 years old and the situation would be comical if it were just a tad less tragic.

If you have young children, especially daughters, I will warn you now. The terrible two's are a JOKE compared to the onset of puberty. Seriously. Because this pre-teen shit? Is the pits.

So now I am home alone, our day of family fun cancelled, and everyone banished from the house. Carlie's beef (today) is with her Dad (mostly) and her sister (a little bit), so I sent them out to "work it out," where in "sent them out" means came home from Ikea, was first out of the car and into the house, where I dead bolted the door and texted Tim 'ALL OF YOU NEED TO GO AWAY RIGHT NOW'. So they're at Erinna's soccer game, and no one is allowed back into the house until they have become a happy family unit once again.

I will take my solitude anyway I can find it.

I would never have had a meltdown at Ikea, so you should take me next time. :-)

Sorry things didn't work out as planned. For us, Ikea is a four-hour 'round trip journey, so we have to make it work.

During Bloody Breakfast Bickering 2010, I may or may not have threatened to run away. Clearly I am doing it wrong because I like the idea of having the place to myself.

(I opted for a long list of chores to be done together because siblings that can't get along obviously need MORE PRACTICE. Heh.Did I mention most of said chores were outside? Peace & quiet...and the neighbors probably hate me now. Sacrifices.)

I like the way you operate.

Okay...so seriously? What the hell is going on in the mind of a 12-year-old? I say that Issei has got a never-ending ride on the 'emotional rollercoaster of hell'....i honestly saw the change...it was slightly amazing to witness the sudden change from happy young man to grumpy/angry/snarling little monster. He's our own little Jekyll/Hyde. We've learned to ignore most behavior....and NEVER tell him that he needs to shower/needs to use soap/should probably wash his feet/should hang up his uniform/do homework/pretty much anything...I may or may not need to drink most nights...

So I just wanted you to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. My oldest turned 13 a couple wks ago, and little sis will be 12 in December. Emotionally charged meltdowns are routine around here and can explode out of nowhere. A simple statement such as "Go put on your shoes" or "A shower might be a good idea" can be met by intense rage or tears, it's anybody's guess. Hormones...
